Though mens board shorts got their start in the world of surfing, they are a common type of swimwear now. These are basically long, waterproof shorts and are quick drying, lightweight, durable and comfortable. They can be worn all day, at the beach or not, and are great for sports and the active man.
Though board shorts for men all have a similar look, loose fitting and down to the knees or a bit beyond, each manufacturer has its own personal flair and style. Some may be a bit longer, some may have signature styles, graphics or features.
One popular brand is the Hurley mens board shorts. These range in price from about $40 to $55, probably being some of the more affordable, high quality board shorts, and come in a variety of prints from solids to plaids. They have front tie waists, dry quickly and wear great. One thing to watch for is that they, like most of this type of swimwear, are often unlined. Some men prefer to wear something underneath, some do not.
Another popular brand is Quicksilver. These shorts are comfortable, quick drying and have pockets, but again no liner. They come in solid colors, and if a guy is looking for mens camo board shorts, Quicksilver has it. These run a bit higher in price than Hurley.
Volcom and Oakley mens board shorts are some more popular brands with similar features. Oakley consistently receives high quality reviews and maintains its solid reputation, but there is some discrepancy with sizing. Some say buy a size down, others say the size is right on it. Volcom mens board shorts have some bold graphic prints that the younger crowd may love, and some more conservative solids as well for the older guys. The price of these shorts can run towards the $70, but for a well made pair of board shorts, it can be worth it. Volcum has a zip fly plus hook and loop with a fitted waist and additional drawstring. Pockets have hook and loop closures.
When looking for a board short, keep in mind some features to look for, like front closures and pockets. If price is a factor, some people still prefer going with a big name, but staying on the lower end; that is possible to do and still get a great pair of shorts. Look for comfort and material, something that dries fast is a big plus. Remember, most of these are not lined, but it that is uncomfortable, just wear something underneath.
